Sword Collecting

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010

Medieval sword collecting has become quite popular over the past decade or two. Mixed martial arts fighters have become enthralled with ancient Japanese swords as a result of winning them in mma matches. Another reason is that medieval styled movies have become popular again and movie fans have decided to collect the items from the movies. For example Prince of Persia, Lord of the Rings, and 300 are all very popular among hard core movie fans.

Another reason why medieval swords may be becoming more popular, is the fact that it has become easier to obtain a medieval sword. It used to be that collectors needed to use phone orders, mail order catalogs, and specialty stores to provide them with their items. These days however, one can just visit a medieval sword Internet retailer and make a quick an easy purchase.

If you’ve recently become a sword collector, you may be wondering how to take care of the sword. In this article, I’ll give you a few tips on taking care of your new medieval sword collecting.

The first thing you must do is to oil it before putting it in its scabbard. Even though the swords are usually made from stainless steel, it is still important that you keep it lubricated. Do not put your hands on the blade of the sword as this will only lead to you leaving damaging body oil on your weapon.

Next, you should come up with a good way to store your collection. You may want to display it prominently so that people can see it. Just make sure you take the necessary steps to keep it safe while its displayed. For instance, you’ll want to make sure the sword is locked up if it will be left alone with children. Having a child injure themselves on your collection is never a good thing.

You can get both sword and scabbard at http://www.armorvenue.com. The scabbards will help keep your sword blade safe from harm. This is good protection against anybody that might accidentally bump into the sword, but ineffective against children purposely trying to cut with the swords blade. Always put your sword away or lock it in a display case when living with children.

If you don’t have to worry about young folks hurting themselves on your swords, you can always mount them on a wall or shelf. Putting your sword up prominently where you can see it is a good way to always remember to clean it. You’ll be able to enjoy your sword for years to come as long as you keep it clean and safe.

Medieval Battle Simulations

Monday, November 15th, 2010

It may seem at times that Civil War reenactments are the only ones people ever do, but their are many groups doing fantastic battle simulations of medieval wars. Medieval reenactments can be much more interesting than more modern reenactments. I wrote this article to give you some strategies to use when having your own medieval reenactment. I’ll even tell you where you can go to pick up a battle ready medieval sword to spar with.

The first thing you should do is to decide on what sort of battles you want to reenact. If you don’t want to have to keep purchasing new costumes for each reenactment, you should choose a war that you can do many battles for using the same costumes and weapons.

You’ll find that choosing a fighting force that participated in many battles is the best way to go. For instance, the Roman Empire was around for many years and fought in many battles. If you chose to make all of your battles using this empire, then you wouldn’t have to keep buying their costumes because you would already have them.

Next, you need to work on getting your reenactment team together. Be sure to pick folks that can train hard each day without injuring themselves. It would be bad if your soldiers suffered injuries simply because they weren’t in good enough shape to spar with each other.

After this you will want to buy gear for your soldiers. Choose military uniforms that people will easily recognize and make sure all your soldiers are dressed the same. It is not good to have one person dressed up in the costume of a Roman soldier from one period and another dressed up like the same soldier but from another time period. You’ll end up confusing your audience.

A great place to get these items is Armor Venue . Medieval helmets, medieval armors, and medieval weapons can all be purchased from this web site. They’ve even got a section of reenactment swords for sale so you know that your soldiers will be safe from the sharp edges of non reenactment swords.

After this, you will want to get your fake soldiers to practice with each other. Try to make your reenactment fights look as real as the actual battle. The best way to do this is to have people spar with each other until they can reenact in perfect harmony. It is best to have your people pair up in the same groups every time they train. They’ll get really in tune with each others fighting styles and will make a more believable reenactment together.

Thank you for reading this page on medieval battle simulations. If you enjoyed this article, please recommend it to your friends.

Wax museums can be extremely fun to visit. They provide a life like version of people that you just can’t get from a photograph. You’ll even learn of a great place to go to buy all sorts of historical items to place on your wax figurines.

Firstly, you need to decide on a particular theme for your personal wax museum. Are you going to use well known wax men and women or will you make them more generic in nature? Starting your own medieval wax museum will take some work. You’ll need to choose some medieval wax figures to use and then you’ll need to completely outfit them. You can easily purchase many items in one place, but only if you choose to focus on a particular theme. For example, you might want to make your museum look like a boat full of medieval pirates. Wax pirates all decked out in medieval pirate gear could stand around your medieval pirate wax museum. The only thing you would need to do would be to get proper clothing and some life like wax figurines to put it on.

Medieval foot wear can be purchased at http://www.historicalclothingrealm.com. Medieval pirate boots can be purchased for a nice price at this web site. Can you think of any reasons not to take a look at Historical Clothing Realm today? Visiting this site may provide you with all the inspiration you need to get started.

Always remember that your personal wax museum does not have to be like all the other wax museums you’ve seen. Your wax museum should be very personal. Make this something that is fun for you and it will surely be fun for everybody else that sees it too.

Renaissance Replica Collecting

Sunday, October 31st, 2010

Have you been thinking about collecting Renaissance art or other collectibles from this time period? If you have been considering Renaissance collecting, you know how expensive it can be. It is not inexpensive to buy a true Renaissance painting or other item. Finding an item from the Renaissance period that is still in great condition can be tough to do.

Since I have a wife and many large collections, I’ve had to keep budget my collecting money very wisely. One way I’ve been able to keep costs down is by purchasing replica items from each time period. Even though it might costs thousands of dollars to acquire a legitimate medieval dress from the Renaissance, a replica of one doesn’t cost much at all.

Additionally, the replica dress usually looks much better than the original. The reason for this is that replica dresses have never been worn. Also it has not spent hundreds of years exposed to the elements and whatever else the previous owners may have exposed it to.

There are many items you can purchase in replica versions. You could buy paintings, household items, clothing, and even weapons from the Renaissance age. Entire rooms have even been created in devotion to the Renaissance. Setting aside an entire room to the Renaissance is a great way to make your collection come alive. Themed rooms are always fun to visit because they really draw you into them and make you feel like you are there. Stepping inside a theme room is like stepping into another world.

You should make sure you have a few key items when making a Renaissance room for your home. Renaissance curtains around all of the windows are an absolute must. Putting a bunch of Renaissance items scattered throughout the room will tell people what you are going for. You can buy items like Renaissance gowns and dresses from Historical Clothing Realm. Armors and weapons as well as many Renaissance costumes can be found at this web site.

Once you have your room completely laid out, you might want to work on dressing up the floors and even the doors. Be sure to get rid of any modern gadgets that won’t quite work well in the room. Folks that lived during the Renaissance were not able to watch episodes of Two And A Half Men each night. They did however have books to read. Why not get a Renaissance style table and place some popular books from this time period upon it?

Finding Roman Empire Collectibles

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010

One of the most powerful nations of the world is unquestionably the Roman Empire. This Empire created one of the few super powers of the world. For this reason, many people enjoy collecting items from this great empire. Chances are you probably know somebody that collects these items, or have decided to collect them for yourself. If you’ve decided to start collecting items from the days of the Roman Empire, you may find that it is a difficult undertaking. You won’t find any signs on your street that say Roman helmets for sale anytime soon. Items like this are mostly for collectors only and can’t be found in every day stores.

Fortunately, those seeking Roman armor, weapon, or helmet replicas will have success in finding them. In this article I’ll give you some practical examples of places you can look to find Roman armor and weapon replicas. I’ll even tell you my favorite place to get them for myself.

Local classifieds can be your first place to look for Roman collectibles. Although they are unlikely to have them, the price will be quite reasonable if you do. Also you may find somebody in your area with a similar interest. Linking up with that person could make collecting much more fun and interesting.

The next place to look would be the online classifieds like Craigslist. This has all the benefits of the local newspaper but with more variety. You can also place an ad on there, saying that you are searching for particular items. You won’t even have to pay money to do this.

Next you could hit up the Internet stores selling replica items. My favorite place to visit is historicalclothingrealm.com . This web site has many replicas for you to choose from. I like their helmet stands since I don’t like to build my own shelf displays to put my helmets on top of.

There are also many other online stores to look at as well. Just make sure you choose one that is secure, reputable, and delivers on time. Having your credit card defrauded, your item destroyed, or delivered months after you’ve ordered is never pleasant.

Thank you for reading this page on Roman Empire item collecting. If you enjoyed this article, please add it to your social book marks.

Medieval Style Decorating

Monday, October 4th, 2010

The dream of living in a medieval castle is shared by many. Sometimes its because these people love the folk lore or the romantic feeling living in a castle can bring. Being surrounded by a large array of medieval items can be even further motivation for a person to want to live in a medieval castle. Sadly, buying a medieval castle is not possible for most people.

Fortunately, folks don’t have to own a castle in order to own some neat medieval items or replicas. I wrote this article to tell folks how to make their houses seem more like the medieval castles they long to live in. You’ll learn where to put your medieval armor plus so much more.

The best way to start is to choose a room that you want to make more medieval. Starting with one room is a great way to get a feel for redecorating. Its also a nice way to change your home up without putting an incredible amount of money up first.

Once you’ve chosen the room you want to make over, you’ll need to start thinking of medieval items to place in it. The best way to start is to work with the floors, walls, and windows first. The room will look like an authentic room in a medieval home rather than just a standard room in a modern house with some medieval items placed within. Buy a few sets of medieval curtains to put in front of your windows. Then put a nice medieval rug on the floor. You’ll find that hardwood floors are best for this setup.

Following this, begin to make your walls medieval. Try putting a nice medieval tapestry on a windowless wall. Then, take some medieval paintings and place them wherever you see fit. Think of some personal touches you can add to the walls to make them truly yours.

You could get some armors, shields and helmets to display around the room. These could be bought online at places like www.armorvenue.com . Armors could be displayed on armor stands against the wall. The helmets can either be placed on shelves, table tops, or even specially made helmet stands.

Folks love to add in medieval weapon displays to their room. For a more authentic look, add all of your weapons to a medieval weapons rack. If that isn’t an option for you, wall mounts and glass cases make a good alternative. Glass cases can add a bit of safety to your medieval weapons.

Postcard collectors are often referred to as deltiologist (It comes from a Greek word which means collector of small pictures or writings). In the early 1900’s, postcards grew rapidly in popularity and availability. More than a billion postcards were sold in a year in the United States alone.

You can find antique, vintage or souvenir postcards in many places such as auctions, antique stores or even in flea markets. You can also search for ads of postcards in the classified section of the paper to find collectors looking to sell their collections to make a bit of money. You may also find this resource handy if you are in search of Christmas postcards for the holidays.

Most postcards are printed on cardboard but you can also find some vintage, older postcards printed on different mediums, such as metal. These can be real keepers!

New US Mint Quarters Feature National Parks and Sites

Friday, January 1st, 2010

In 2010 a new series of quarters will be launched by the United States Mint. The America the Beautiful Quarters series will issue a total of 56 circulating quarter dollar coins over the course of twelve years, featuring National Parks or other National Sites from each of the states, territories, and the District of Columbia.

The new series begins two years after the conclusion of the popular 50 State Quarters Program. From 1999 to 2008, the US Mint released a total of fifty different coins to honor each of the states. Average Americans were able to learn more about history and geography by examining the coins received in change. A separate program was launch in 2009 to feature the remaining United States Territories and Washington, DC.

While the America the Beautiful Quarters Program will be similar to the other programs, it will have a unique focus and introduce an accompanying bullion program. The new program will feature 56 different coins, with unique depictions on the “tails side” of the coin. The “heads side” will feature a restored portrait of George Washington. Quarters will also be released at a rate of five per year, but with a single design in the final year. The new coins will be released into circulation, making potential collectors out of anyone who receives them.

The focus of the series will shift National sites. Under the authorizing legislation, this includes any site under the supervision, management, or conservancy of the National Park Service, United States Forest Service, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, or similar department or agency of the federal government. Sites selected for the program include National Parks, National Forests, National Preserves, and National Wildlife Refuges.

The new collectible introduced with the series will be over-sized silver bullion coins. These five ounce .999 fine silver coins will be issued each year with designs which are an exact duplicate of the quarters. The coins will be sold by the United States Mint as bullion through their network of authorized bullion purchasers.

The United States Mint has already established the order of release for the entire 56 quarter program. The America the Beautiful Quarters will issue the different designs in the order the sites were federally designated. The first year of release will include Hot Springs National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Yosemite National Park, the Grand Canyon, and Mount Hood National Forest.

Find detailed information about the upcoming America the Beautiful Quarters Program. View the America the Beautiful Quarters Release Dates.
