Renaissance Replica Collecting

Sunday, October 31st, 2010

Have you been thinking about collecting Renaissance art or other collectibles from this time period? If you have been considering Renaissance collecting, you know how expensive it can be. It is not inexpensive to buy a true Renaissance painting or other item. Finding an item from the Renaissance period that is still in great condition can be tough to do.

Since I have a wife and many large collections, I’ve had to keep budget my collecting money very wisely. One way I’ve been able to keep costs down is by purchasing replica items from each time period. Even though it might costs thousands of dollars to acquire a legitimate medieval dress from the Renaissance, a replica of one doesn’t cost much at all.

Additionally, the replica dress usually looks much better than the original. The reason for this is that replica dresses have never been worn. Also it has not spent hundreds of years exposed to the elements and whatever else the previous owners may have exposed it to.

There are many items you can purchase in replica versions. You could buy paintings, household items, clothing, and even weapons from the Renaissance age. Entire rooms have even been created in devotion to the Renaissance. Setting aside an entire room to the Renaissance is a great way to make your collection come alive. Themed rooms are always fun to visit because they really draw you into them and make you feel like you are there. Stepping inside a theme room is like stepping into another world.

You should make sure you have a few key items when making a Renaissance room for your home. Renaissance curtains around all of the windows are an absolute must. Putting a bunch of Renaissance items scattered throughout the room will tell people what you are going for. You can buy items like Renaissance gowns and dresses from Historical Clothing Realm. Armors and weapons as well as many Renaissance costumes can be found at this web site.

Once you have your room completely laid out, you might want to work on dressing up the floors and even the doors. Be sure to get rid of any modern gadgets that won’t quite work well in the room. Folks that lived during the Renaissance were not able to watch episodes of Two And A Half Men each night. They did however have books to read. Why not get a Renaissance style table and place some popular books from this time period upon it?

How I Started My Doll Collection

Sunday, December 6th, 2009

I loved Cabbage Patch Dolls, Strawberry Shortcake and Barbie when I was young. During the eighties, my Mom and other relatives would spend hours waiting for them to go on sale at local stores. I always ended up getting one of my favorites when Christmas arrived. Some of these dolls have gone on to be collector’s items.

I was fortunate that my family was always able to get me one of my favorite dolls when my birthday rolled around. Nobody ever had to resort to fighting in parking lots to buy me a doll. I saw videos of people actually fighting over dolls back then and it looked ridiculous to me.

My Strawberry Shortcake dolls and accessories still smell of artificial strawberry scent. I took them out of storage the other day and the aroma took me back to my childhood. Sometimes I think I liked the accessories more than the dolls themselves. I try to keep these nice so that I can pass them on eventually.

Another favorite doll is the Barbie doll. As a child, I enjoyed playing with Malibu Barbie and the ken doll as well. I enjoyed the fashionable clothes and shoes for Barbie. I could spend hours changing her outfits and accessories. I also like to style the doll’s hair. Barbies of course offer a great variety in hair styles.

The most exciting gift I received was the Barbie with her own red sports car. Barbie is a lovely doll for girls of all ages. In addition, in our new day and age you can have a Barbie doll created to look they way you want them to look. Many young girls ruin the value of their dolls by “customizing” them with either makeup or by cutting their hair. Both of these things should be avoided.

I plan on passing my Barbie dolls down to my own family. Many of the dolls though do have some nice collectible value. There are a lot of people who sell their vintage Barbies on places like eBay for a nice profit. Although I’ve kept mine in very nice condition, I am just to attached to them to want to sell them.

Back in the 80’s, the cabbage patch doll was also a big hit. I had to have one. So my collection of the cabbage patch doll began. I started out with a cabbage patch with blond hair. I then received the premie cabbage patch doll. I wanted an African American one too, so a year later for Christmas I got one of those as a gift too. I loved going over to my friends house and playing with them.

I loved to get dress up clothes for all of my dolls. I loved getting the birth certificates they came with Cabbage Patch dolls and the signature that each one had on its bottom. The scent of baby powder still reminds me of them. I remember when the doll first came out they became so popular and were in high demand. I still have the dolls that I collected over the years. Collecting dolls is now part of my life, even though I never started a formal collection on purpose. Doll collecting is something I enjoy doing and will keep on doing for the rest of my life.

Interior Design Ideas

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Redecorating your house really isn’t that simple and it only becomes even less so when you become stumped for ideas. The only real way to get over this shortage of interior design ideas, is to sit down, put your feet up and have a cup of tea or coffee.

I’m not kidding, there’s no better way of getting a new perspective on things than taking a break from what you are doing. In the first place, you become more relaxed, and in the second place a steaming cup of tea or coffee is always welcome.

Once that you’re sitting down comfortably and are suitably relaxed, shut your eyes and envision the room that you want to redecorate. Even if you are doing more than one room, it’s always a good idea to start with one room first, working your way logically through to the next one and then the next one.

Before you commence your journey through the land of interior design ideas, get yourself a notebook and pen so that you can jot down any good ideas you have before they are forgotten

So, simply sit back and imagine the room in your mind. Try to see it as you want it to look. And if that’s too hard, first try to replace separate parts of your room or articles in it. This is always a good method of working. But, if you’ve still got a mental drought on interior design ideas, leaf through some interior design catalogues beforehand so that you have at least some basic ideas of what you can do to redecorate your room.

The interior design catalogues need not be anything more grand than your free local department store catalogue, turned to the home furnishing section. Then again, these days you also get specialist shops which deal solely with the redecorating of your home. If you have the time, a quick trip down to one of these might also help to end the dearth on interior design ideas, and will probably get you started.

These stores will have staged sets of many designs, giving you a good idea of what your room can look like. However, if you’re going to one of these places, be prepared to spend some money as no matter how tight a hand you keep on your wallet, you’ll always find something you want to buy.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing but unless you watch out you could end up buying everything in the store. And without a proper idea of what you want the room to look like, this can prove to be disastrous. Not to worry though, if you keep your picture in mind, you can come back and get a start on redecorating your rooms the way you want.

Furthermore, now that you’ve been able to get a few interior design ideas of what you want your rooms to look like, your whole redecorating project ought to be that much easier and that much more fun too.
