Best Electric Scooters 2009

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

With the many different models of electric scooters on the market, is it possible to know which electric scooter is best? I understand that this is a rather subjective issue, but there are some factors to consider before deciding which electric scooter is best for your situation. I hope to explain some of the basic guidelines you need to look for when it comes to buying an the best scooter.

First of all, what kind of electric scooter are we talking about? There are stand up scooters for kids that have handle bars. You can get them with no motor, a gas motor, or an electric motor. Mobility scooters are used primarily by those who struggle to walk on their own. The new craze in America is the scooters that are primary called mopeds.

First question you might ask is how much and how often you are going to use it. If you’re just getting an electric scooter for emergency use, in case your car breaks down or you need a quick run to the nearby convenience store, then you’re better off with the most basic electric scooter model. (stand up or moped) You can buy a good used one for as low as $500.

However, if you are planning to use an electric scooter regularly, you should consider in investing in a new or bigger model. For the handicapped or a senior citizen, a mobility electric scooter is a great option. For scooters moped bigger than 50cc, you may need to get a motorcycle license to operate it.

Moped electric scooters are beginning to gain popularity in America with the rising gas prices. Some are eliminating one car in their family and replacing it with an gas or electric scooter, and thus saving hundreds without the expensive cost of maintenance, insurance and fuel. Electric or gas scooters have proven to be a great alternative for traveling locally.

Choosing the best electric scooter can be challenging and time consuming. It helps make the decision easier when you know what you plan to use it for and have a determined budget. Many also consider how the scooter looks and not just how functional it will be. After doing a little homework on the scooter is best functionally, picking how it looks will be up to your interest and personality.

Lake George NY, A Great Place

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009

[I:http://exporubens.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/LJJames2.jpg] As a Biker I love to take long Rides on my 2007 Harley Davidson, Nightrain. Some times a trip to Connecticut where one has the freedom of choice to decided if they want to wear a Helmet or not is a great place to go. Often I head up to the NY Catskill Mountains, Where a Burger and a Beer at Nicks Waterfall House in West Conesville can be the perfect end to a day of Cruising threw the Mountains.

Then there is another of my Favorite places to ride to, The Lake George NY area. My Uncle has a small Cabin in the Mountains right outside of the town of Lake George where I often stay. The area has some great long and winding roads for riding, These roads will relax even the most stressed Motorcycle rider.

There is so much history to the Lake George NY area. While on a trip one year riding around with no real destination in mind, I found myself in front of Fort Ticonderoga (fort-ticonderoga.org). Being very interested in American History I had to stop in and take the tour. The Fort was built between 1755 and 1759 and has plenty of stories to tell. It had a big roll in the American Revolution. As I walked around the Fort the I could almost imagine I had traveled back to the 18Th Century, The things I learned reminded me of the sacrifices our fore Fathers made to secure the Freedoms we enjoy and let slip threw our fingers every day.

Another thing I like to do is ride on some of the less traveled roads. Riding on a road where you see nothing but Forests and small Waterfalls for miles is very relaxing. I like to search out small little Dinners and eatery’s, Stopping at them and trying some of the foods they have to offer.

I recently met up with my Mother, Sister, Brother, Nieces, Nephew and other members of my family at the Lake George Escape Evergreen Resort Campgrounds (LakeGeorgeEscape.com), I found it a great places for me to relax for a few days. There where plenty of activities for the kids and many activities I could enjoy with the kids. In the resorts game room I won my Nieces and Nephew many prizes and I played (or maybe Battled is a more accurate word) Air Hockey with my younger Brother in the game room for hours. The resort has a pond and two pools to Swim in. Each week at the resort during the Summer has a thyme and while we where there it was Halloween week. The Camp Grounds has Nightly Hay rides around the Camp Grounds and since it was Halloween week my Brother came up with the idea of throwing out candy to all the kids as we took a Hay ride around the grounds one night. The Cherry on the top of this great resort has to be the on Grounds full service Tiki style Bar where most Nights they had a DJ to help keep the party going!

Many other things I have stopped to enjoy while riding around and staying in the Lake George area is White Water rafting, Hiking and many Trips to Six Flags Great Escape & Splash Water Kingdom. The park was known as Storytown USA when it first opened in 1954. As a Kid I used to love to watch the gun fights in its old western area known as Ghost town. The park may be much larger now and have many modern day Rides and attractions, but all the old Story town, Jungleland and Ghost town areas from the 50’s and 60s are still there! Then of course there is the town of Lake George it self with many great stores for shopping including a new shop I found last year called DILLIGAF’s. Many Arcades, Museum’s, Para Sailing, Night Clubs and Many Places to eat including some Waterfront Restaurants. Now in my opinion no trip to Lake George can be Complete without a Paddle wheel Cruise on the historic and scenic Lake George itself. The lake is known as the Queen of American Lakes. There are Two maybe three Companies you can use, But I recommend you take your trip on the Lake George Steamboat Company’s (lakegeorgesteamboat.com) Minnie-Ha-Ha. I have Pictures of me getting on this Boat with my Family that go back many years. [I:http://exporubens.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/LJJames8.jpg]

As Bikers We are always looking for Great places to ride to alone or with our friends and family that offer both great riding areas and many things to do. I have found Lake George to be a great area for both!

Maybe I will see you there! Your Bro L.J. James AmericanBikerX.com Listen to LJs Radio Show at BikerLowDown.com

Motorcycle Adventure Book: Iron Horse Rider by Adelle Laudan

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

[I:http://exporubens.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/LJJames2.jpg] When I received the Novel “Iron Horse Rider” from the Author Adelle “Legs” Laudan I have to admit I was expecting a book about a Biker fighting and causing trouble. You know your Typical Biker Bad Boy Story.

What I received was something I was not expecting at all. The Novel Tells the story of a hardcore biker named Shane, Shane had always kept women at arms length and showed them no emotion, That was until he met Kelly. Try as he might this biker who had always kept to himself could not fight off his feelings for her and soon found himself Married to the Women of his dreams.

After 10 years of Marriage Kelly is taken from Shane in a Tragic accident while they are Ridding. Shane finds everything around him reminds him of Kelly, His home, his shop, even his Clubhouse. His Brother’s try to Support and comfort him, but the looks of sorrow in their eyes for him is more then Shane can bare. He soon realizes staying in the world He has Known and loved is not an option. Soon Shane is on his Iron Horse with the wind in his face and no destination! As Shane rides He finds the pain he feels for his loss begin to lessen!

With advice from a Mysterious Biker he keeps running into, Shane finds himself at a Micmac Indian Camp. Shane is welcomed into the Camp by the Tribes Chief and soon finds himself becoming Friends with the Chief’s Daughter Tia who has recently lost her Husband! While the two Share their pain they soon begin to feel something for each other. Is it possible for either of them to feel love again while still suffering from such a great loss? A member of Tia’s Tribe is taking no chances and tells Shane to stay away from Tia. He soon finds out you never tell a Biker like Shane what to do![I:http://exporubens.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/LJJames16.jpg]

I found the writing in this novel while in no way simplistic was easy to read. I also found the story easy to follow ! Adelle “Legs” Laudan describes and expresses the feelings of Biker Brotherhood perfectly. When She explains Shane’s feelings while Riding you can see in your mind where he is and you can almost feel the wind in your Face!In life we all have our worlds we live in, When something Terrible happens sometimes We cling to what We know. Shane does what He as a true Biker must after such a terrible loss, He goes out and finds not only a new life but a new World to live in for a while.

I have to say I enjoyed the story. It was not what I was expecting or would usually read but I found I could not put the book down. I think some Men who Ride will enjoy this book, While many I feel will find it a little too much of a Romance novel! I do believe almost every Women who has ever ridden a Motorcycle or dated a Man who rode one will love this Novel.

As I know now Adelle “Legs” Laudan is a writer of Motorcycle Romance Novels, Please Support Adelle in her Quest to emprove the image of the Motorcycle world one book at a time! Every time you order Iron Horse Rider or one of her other Novels (only $5.95), including the upcoming Iron Horse Rider 2 at the website www.AdelleLaudan.com you help make the Motorcycle world a better place!

Speaking to the MCs in your area before starting a new Club

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Why speak to the MCs in your area before starting a new MC?[I:http://exporubens.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/LJJames2.jpg]

I want to address a question I have gotten a lot recently. (I am sure it has a lot to do with the hit show Sons of Anarchy) It is from people who want to start new Motorcycle Clubs. They want to know if they should go to the predominate MCs in their area to talk about starting a new MC first. Many have said to me they do not understand the reason why they should go talk to them! Some have even gone as far as to say that if they have to go to the predominate MC in their area and ask permission that just proves that MC is a Criminal Gang! Not sure how they came to that conclusion but they are some very strong words sent over the computer.

I want everyone to remember I am writing this info as a guideline to those who are looking to get into the MC world and individual results may vary. This maybe some new fad to you but to true Motorcycle Club Members this world is everything!

For my answer to this Question I am going to put aside any statements of having to ask permission of the MCs in your area. I am going to instead ask why would you not speak to the MCs in your area and get their Blessing first before starting a new Motorcycle Club. Many say its because they are going to start a different type of Motorcycle Club. They may even be calling themselves something different like a Riding Club or a Motorcycle Association. Are your Members going to ride Motorcycles and have Club patches on their vests? If the answer is yes, Then again why not go speak to those who have come before you and paved the roads you now wish to ride down!

For many I know the reason they don’t want to ask is simple fear! Fear of what they do not know or what they think they do know. If it is fear, then it is because you do not know the real Motorcycle Club world! Now every Motorcycle Club in the world is different. But most Motorcycle Clubs don’t mind helping to get a new MC started and teach them what it really means to be in a Motorcycle Club, I can guarantee you it is something you will not learn on TV no matter how many episodes you may watch!

Now if you have decided that what you really want is to start up a new Motorcycle Club, One thing I want to make sure you know is something every Father should have taught his Son as a Child and that is “Do not lie and Always do what you say you are going to do” One fact I will also give you is the MC world is all about Respect! If you just start up a new MC without talking to the other clubs in your area that will most likely be seen as disrespectful!

Lets think about some other reasons you would want to talk to the MCs in your area first. You are going to want to make sure your new Patch or MC name is not similar to another Motorcycle Club. Many MCs have worked hard over the years to create a name and image for themselves. They will not like the idea of you either using a name close to theirs or wearing a patch that looks like theirs. The reason being is a simple one, They do not want you being mistaken for them doing anything that would make them look bad. You also could be seen as trying to ride on their coat tails by using the reputation they have worked hard for. You may not understand it now but the MC world is a Brotherhood and if you are fortunate enough to be welcomed into it, You will understand after years of working hard creating a name for your MC. The bottom line is meeting with the MCs in your area and talking with them before starting a new MC is the right thing to do!

Another fear many have is they wrongly believe they will be forced to do things for these other MC’s. The only thing most Clubs may ask of you is to come to a few of their events each year have fun and again to show Respect!!!

Now I have heard complaints from many that there are areas where the MCs have decided they do not want any more new MCs! Well all I can do is guess why that might be! The reason I would think that Motorcycle Clubs would say no more Clubs in an area is that there are already a lot of different MCs in that area and they all get along real well. These MCs would not want anything new coming in and messing up the harmony they have created.

Now like I said before the reason most say they want to start a new MC is because they want to start something different then what is in that area. Well often that is not the truth. The real reason People often want to start a new MC is because they do not want to have to Prospect! If the only reason you want to start a new MC is because you are not willing to prospect, My best advice to you is to stay an independent rider because you will not last long in the Motorcycle Club world anyway! Lost Freedom

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

Whenever a person or group of people try to live their lives free, those who are stuck in unhappy lives will be jealous. Some people have a hard time letting go, freeing themselves from the day to day trials and tribulations of everyday life even for a little while. Others seek an escape from the stress and anxiety often associated with modern day life. I guess for me, that’s part of why I am a Biker. There is something about riding a bike that inspires a sense of freedom in me. The open road, the wind in my face, the smells, getting back to nature, the power of my bike. It’s all these things and more that make me feel free. It’s unfortunate that there are some people who, for whatever reason, can’t find something or someway to let go and experience the sense of freedom that we do. These people, for whatever reason, are the ones who point to us and call us rogues or rebels. They say that what we are doing is wrong and that our culture is a “disruptive influence.”

As Bikers, we live our lives a little differently. We work and have responsibilities, but we still know the feeling of freedom. Maybe its because we smile just a bit more and are a bit more relaxed that turns these people green with envy? A person who works hard and has no free time sees a person on the road riding his or her motorcycle and thinks “I wish that was me!” The thought of being free doesn’t leave their mind. They long for it. They crave it badly! How many of you out their have had a friend tell you how they have always wanted to buy a Motorcycle and just go out riding? How many of them ever actually do?

Here is a typical story : A man is driving home from work when he see’s a group of motorcycle riders pull up next to him. He looks at this group of people riding together having a great time, He starts to think, “I wish that was me”. He then decides, “I’m going to buy a Motorcycle!” He starts thinking about riding. How great it will be to have his wife on the back of his bike and the wind in his face. We could ride up to the lake or maybe that little motel way up in the Mountains. Thinking of the great times he will have he starts to feel that small sense of freedom. He thinks “This must be what those Biker get to feel, Wow!” He turns into the driveway, parks his truck and rushes into the house to tell his wife about his fantastic idea. “Hi honey, I’m going to buy a Motorcycle.” His wife looks at him and says “What? Did you get overwhelmed by the fumes at work again?” “You can’t ride a Motorcycle. The man answers back, “I’ll learn!”

“You must be crazy”, she says. “Those things are death traps! You will kill yourself and we can’t afford it!” “Honey this is something I really want” replies the man. “NO NO NO!!! I won’t have one of those things in my house! What kind of message would it send to the kids, our neighbors?” They argue about it, but it the end, the man never gets his motorcycle. He never goes to the lake with his wife or takes that trip up to the little motel in the mountains. He never feels the real sense of freedom one can only get when taking a long trip on a motorcycle. He spends the rest of his life wishing he had never seen that group of Motorcycles. He is angry and bitter.

Now when he see’s Bikers he puts them down. He hates Bikers, not because of who or what they are, but because of what he can never be. He hates them because of what they represent. They represent a kind of freedom, sense of belonging, a oneness with nature and the world that he longs for, he craves, but can never have. We live here in America, the home of the free, but many are not free. They have never experienced the sense of freedom that can only be experienced on two wheels and, for whatever reason, never will. They live boring, uneventful. “safe” lives and complain about those who don’t.

Don’t hate these envious people, pity them for they will never know the sense of freedom and brotherhood we get from riding with a group of our Bro’s. They’ll never know the wind in their face, the feeling of peace and oneness with nature we feel as we ride threw the country side or down a long lonely highway. They’ll never know the clarity of mind that comes from a long ride alone or the closeness and bond of a long ride or weekend away with someone special. Just thank your higher power that you’ve found a way to escape, a way to be free, even if it’s just on the weekends.

Ride Safe and Ride Free because when it all come down to it, this is all about the Ride! Your Bro L.J. James AmericanBikerX.com Listen to LJs Radio Show at BikerLowDown.com

Looking for a Biker Friendly Bar on Long Island NY,Try JD’s Place

Saturday, April 4th, 2009

[I:http://exporubens.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/LJJames0.jpg] I have heard many say over the years, That you can not have a biker friendly bar and have all Types of bikers hanging out Together! It has been said that 1% MC’s, Military MC’s, Fire MC’s, Law MC’s,Sport Bike MC’s, Outlaw MC’s, AMA Clubs, MRO’s, Independent Riders and everyone else can not get together and have a few drinks without there being problems!

I have heard many say there would be nothing but fights and problems at a bar like this and no one would want to go to there! I had always believed it was nothing but a Bunch of Bull Sh#t!

Well for around two years now Michelle and Anthony the owners of JDs Place 1005B Fulton Street (Rte 109) Farmingdale on Long Island in NY have proved that Bikers from all corners of the Motorcycle world can come together have a few drinks and get along!

They have proved that given a place where all are welcome that not only can everyone get along, But that these Bikers can come together and accomplish many great things for their Community! The Long Island Bikers and MC Members who hang out together at JD’s have worked together and supported each other while hosting Charity events at JD’s Place to help many of the less fortunate on Long Island! These Bikers have also come together and crossed barriers to be there for each other in both good times and bad! JD’s Place may be a small Long Island biker bar, but when it comes to helping to change the whole biker world, It is huge!

To those out there that think they know about Bikers, Please keep telling us what we are not Capable of doing and we will be more then happy to keep proving you wrong!!!

Holidays Unite Long Island NY Motorcycle Riders !

Friday, April 3rd, 2009

[I:http://exporubens.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/LJJames0.jpg] I’m sure most of you from Long Island NY go to the Who Cares Committee Toy Run every year and have been going for many years as it is a Long Island Biker tradition! Some of you may or may not know over a few years back Bob Whelehan (a good friend of mine) who was the President of the Committee passed away due to complications caused by his Diabetes, leaving his Wife and Kids with many bills to take care of. His Wife Liz known as Mom to many because of how giving she has always been took over as President of the Committee and running the Toy Run to make sure the Children of the St. Chris-Ottille Residential Treatment Center in Sea Cliff Still received their Presents every year.Even with her own bills piling up due to the loss of her Husbands income!!!

Well as if things where not bad enough for Liz and her Family while she was walking home from the Super Market a car ran a red light and hit Liz while she was walking across the street in the cross walk putting her out of work an into a Wheel Chair! Being the strong women she is, she has fought back and can now walk around a little with the use of a cane. Liz is living on $600 a month until she can get well enough to get back to work. She can not pay all of her rent or bills!

Now With a story like that you may believe Liz would have been looking for some one to help her out, and why not? After all she has done for the Children of people of Long Island over the years! But no that is not what she was looking for. She was looking for help Running the Toy Run for the kids of St.Chris-Ottille. The Who Cares Committee being in Disarray because of all the tragedy that had befallen it had lost its AMA Charter and needed help Getting the Toy Run Sanctioned and Insured and of course they needed some able body Bikers to help work the sign up at the Sears Parking lot in Hicksville!

Well when the bikers of Long island heard about this they came out in force to help out! Members of L.I.M.A (The Long Island Motorcycle Association)a Club of AMA Clubs got the Run Sanctioned and insured and Bikers from all walks of the Biker world came down to help out! Members of the Mortal Skulls MC who own an Entertainment Company Donated their time to D.J. the Run and announce the Raffles at the party at the VFW Hall, 320 South Broadway, Hicksville. Once again Members of L.I.M.A. helped out, This time with cooking and serving the food. As anyone who has been to this event knows the food is always incredible.

So often we here the cry as Bikers to help one of our own and we always do!!! This time the Cry was to help one of our own Continue to help others and again on a cold December day We where there!!! The Long Island Biker Community over the past few years has really come together, The differences and prejudices of the past seem to really be melting away!!! If you would like to become a Member of the Who Cares Committee or just help out at next years Toy Run go to angelfire.com/ny2/whocarescommittee

NY Motorcycle Riders will forever be in the Heart of a Child!

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

[I:http://exporubens.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/LJJames2.jpg] There maybe no greater thing people can do in this world then saving the life of a child. We rely on Doctors and medicine to cure diseases most of us just do not understand. Doctors work very hard and do the best they can with what they have learned, But I believe the real cure is hope! A sick person must believe they are going to get better and know that there are many people out there doing the same.

I met a beautiful little 10 year old girl named Gabriella. Gabbi has been diagnosed with a rare Blood disorder called Aplastic Anemia. What this means is that her Bone marrow is not producing new blood cells to replace the old ones. Without treatment this could mean the end of young Gabbi’s life.

David Negron,President of the MU Foundation an Organization who’s motto is “We help kids fight back” Decided to take on the task of not only raising money for Gabbi’s treatments but raising what is most important hope. On September 30th 2008 David and his staff called upon the Motorcyclists of the Long Island NY area to take a ride with them out to Martha Clara vineyards in Riverhead. and with around 100 Motorcycles in attendance they rode out on a bright sunny Sunday. Where they did just a little wine tasting.

Then it was off to the Celebration at Brennans in Hauppauge, Where all the Riders where welcomed to some great Bar-B-Q, Live Music by a band I really enjoyed 3 on 6 (3on6.tripod.com) and all where greeted by a Smiling Gabbi and her Familiey. I spoke with Gabi and her family, they told me about how Allie (Gabi’s 13 year old Sister) had recentley given Gabbi some of her Bone Marrow. I could not help but laugh as I read what Allie had written on the back of the T-shirt she had received from the Hospital after the transplant ” I donated my Bone Marrow and all I got was this Stupid T-shirt”

The Family seems very optimistic of Gabbi’s full recovery and I could see why, one look in Her eyes and anyone could tell Gabbi has the strength most men brag about having! This Benefit was a huge Success and with the Money raised from the run and all the Raffles over $5000 is going directly to Gabbi and her Family! If you would like info on how you can help Gabbi or other Children like her go to www.mufoundation.net

With all the positive energy surrounding Gabbi I know she will soon be fully healed!!! Your Bro L.J. James AmericanBikerX.com and Radio Show at Bikerlowdown.com
