    The Facts Boxing vs. MMA

    Wednesday, July 8th, 2009

Mixed martial arts has grown in popularity exponentially after the last several years. This is due in part to a variety of factors, including a reality television show from the UFC that brought the sport to the masses for the first time. The UFC continues to produce high quality fights since all of the fighters are under their control, which helps to add to their popularity. Some people feel that MMA is replacing or has already replaced boxing in our culture but in truth they are different sports and you don’t have to like or follow just one.

Boxing has suffered from a decline in popularity, but this development predates public awareness of MMA by many years. Boxing has a core fan base made up of enthusiasts whose dedication to the sport is at no risk of waning. Many have predicted the death of boxing over the years, but it doesn’t look like the “sweet science” is going the way of the dinosaur anytime soon. Nonetheless, there are boxing fans who resent the popularity that MMA has won, feeling the sport to be a sensational, cheap ripoff of boxing.

There are also boxing fans who have found themselves drawn to MMA while still being every bit as loyal to boxing. There is plenty here for boxing fans (and anyone else) to enjoy in MMA. Mixed martial arts does include some elements drawn from boxing, but also incorporates techniques from MuayThai, kickboxing, judo and wrestling, among other fighting styles. This amalgam of different techniques and styles makes MMA something very different than boxing.

Boxing fans and MMA fans in fact can find a lot to enjoy in both sports. MMA events don’t feature much in the way of advanced boxing techniques and since these fighters don’t specialize in the discipline, the work of athletes in professional boxing is worlds apart from what you’ll see in a MMA match.

There are more TKOs in MMA matches than in boxing proper, however. This is due to the very small, light gloves used in MMA. Little more than knuckle guards, they don’t cushion the impact of a blow the way that traditional boxing gloves do. This is in line with MMA in general - it’s less focused on skill than on force and raw physicality than is boxing, which is unarguably a more refined sport. Both MMA and boxing have their own appeal to fans due to the differences in approach between the two.

You can certainly be a fan of boxing and MMA; there are different reasons why people enjoy each of these sports. There’s no need to feel as if you’re betraying boxing by enjoying a MMA match or vice versa. After all, you never hear people talking about how they can’t take in a basketball game since they’re also hockey fans. The two sports are different and are not in direct competition with each other, simple as that.

MMA and boxing fans would find a lot to appreciate about each other’s favorite sports if they would simply set aside this feud and look at the other sport on its own merits rather than as an enemy. You don’t have to like both, but you shouldn’t dismiss either out of hand.

7 Easy Tips to Kiss Your Belly Fat Goodbye for Life

    Sunday, April 12th, 2009

Do you want to lose fat? Have you tried different diets and failed consistently? If you answered yes to these questions, you are in good company. There are a lot of people who have been trying fat loss diets over the years and have failed. The reason they have not succeeded is that they used gimmicks and lose-weight-fast diets that do more damage than good. Here are some sensible things to keep in mind when you try to lose weight.

    1. Go easy on the tea and coffee. They are pretty much harmless if you don’t add a lot of cream and sugar to them. It is the cream and sugar that becomes fattening. Think of it this way, when you have a cup of coffee or tea with cream and two cubes of sugar, you are essentially eating a piece of chocolate cake every time.

    2. Attempt to adhere to black coffee and tea. They may really be beneficial for you. But personally I’d like to suggest tea instead of coffee. The caffeine in the coffee isn’t actually good for you since it will make you irritable.

    3. Calculate the calories when you eat, however do not overdo it. It is a sound idea to know the calories that most food items contain. Whenever it’s a packed thing then the label is certain to give the calories it has.

    4. Make certain to burn off those extra energy by the end of the week. When you feel that you’ve eaten more energy than you should have within the week, this occurs you know, then be sure that you work away these additional energy by the end of the week.

    5. Stay away from fried things. Fried things are an absolute no-no. The more fried things that you avoid, the lesser weight you will gain. Fried things are called so because they are fried in oil or fat. And even if the external oil is drained away, there is still a lot of hidden oil in it so stay away from it.

    6. Don’t skip meals. You should have, at the very least, three meals a day, but preferably five small meals. This will keep you from getting hungry during the day and overeating out of starvation.

    7. Fresh veggies are better than canned or cooked veggies. Try to have your veggies uncooked. If you cook them, you’re indeed taking out nearly 50% the vitamins in them. And canned veggies also are processed and not nearly half as healthy as fresh veggies. Whenever you purchase your veggies it would be good to find out if the label states that it’s pesticide free.

Jiu Jitsu: The Way of Yielding

    Sunday, April 12th, 2009

Jiu Jitsu is a Japanese martial art including primarily unarmed techniques, but also the use of some weapons. Specifically, it teaches unarmed strategies of combating an opponent who is armed. Like many martial arts, many different forms and styles of jiu-jitsu have evolved over the centuries.

What Sets Jiu Jitsu Apart from Other Martial Arts?

Jiu Jitsu was created by samurai in feudal Japan as a technique to battle other samurai. Punches and kicks were not very effective against armed samurai, so jiu-jitsu developed techniques to quickly immobilize an enemy through pins, throws, and holds. The philosophy of jiu-jitsu was not so much to directly oppose an enemy, but rather to detain him by turning his own energy against him.

Jiu Jitsu, literally translated as “the art of softness” or “way of yielding”, is a “soft” martial art style. “Soft” styles, like jiu-jitsu, prefer yielding to an opponent’s force, using balance and leverage to turn an attacker’s momentum against themselves, rather than opposing force with force. “Hard” martial styles (such as Karate and Kung Fu), in contrast, favor forceful, direct attacks requiring power, speed, and strength.

Different martial arts place their own emphasis on particular types of combat. For instance, Judo focuses on wrestling, while Tae Kwon Do focuses on kicking. In contrast, jiu-jitsu emphasizes grappling.

While “grappling” seems similar to wrestling, it has subtle but important differences. There are a variety of grappling techniques, including joint locks (discussed below), traps, pins, holds, and throws. Other techniques include gauging, choking, strangling, and biting. Some defensive jiu-jitsu techniques including breaking one’s fall, and learning how to disentangle oneself from an enemy’s grasp.

Joint-locks, as the name implies, are a technique that pressures a joint in the opposite direction of the way it is meant to bend. Not only does this immobilize the opponent’s limb to keep it from being used against you, but it also causes more pain the more the enemy struggles. This encourages your opponent to give up. American police officers are taught to use this technique to subdue dangerously aggressive criminals.

What Are the Advantages of Learning Jiu Jitsu?

Jiu Jitsu is an excellent self-defense martial art to learn for several reasons. First, it teaches how to escape an opponent’s attack. Second, you learn how to immobilize an attacker without necessarily hurting them. Third, it teaches as escalation of force.

First, in the case of defending yourself from a mugger or rapist, the more you stay and fight the more likely it is that your assailant will overtake you. It’s fairly common for criminals to travel in groups, or at least pairs, making it even more important for you to escape quickly. Your goal should be to get away and into a public and well-lit area. Muggers know this of course, so their aim is to immobilize you in an area far from others. Jiu Jitsu teaches you to break free from an assailant’s grasp.

Second, if the only fighting you know how to do involves hurting someone quickly and deeply, you could get in big trouble. In barroom brawls, or even if a mugger attacks you, if you seriously injure them or kill them, you’ll almost certainly face a lawsuit. Being able to escape, immobilize, or subdue an opponent without causing them serious harm neatly avoids this problem.

Escalation of force teaches you to only use the amount of force necessary to deal with an opponent. A mugger carrying a knife on the mean streets of New York City is entirely different from Cousin Eddie who’s had a few too many drinks and is stirring up trouble at a family gathering.

Obviously, both issues need to be dealt with. Equally obvious, however, is that you need to use much less force against drunken Cousin Eddie than you would against a mugger. Jiu Jitsu, by teaching how to immobilize an opponent with holds, joint-locks, and pins, allows you to do both. You can pin Cousin Eddie until he calms down while causing him little, if any, harm. On the other hand, if you need to, you can disarm the mugger and throw them to the ground dazed.

The easiest method is blogging. Many people overlook it or avoid it. Most probably they are afraid of writing. Don’t be afraid of writing. Give it a try. It is easy. Overtime, you will start enjoying it when people will visit your blog and offer their own comments on your posts.

When people start visiting your blog, you are on your way to making money online. Look for an affiliate program that is relevant to your blog. Disply the offers on your blog. People will click on them. You will start making money.
