MMA Flashback: Aoki Beats JZC In Rematch

Friday, January 15th, 2010

After a controversial no contest in their first matchup, there was no doubt as to the winner of the DREAM 2 rematch between Shina Aoki and JZ Calvan. Aoki controlled the fight from the opening bell and used a wide repertoire of submission attempts to keep his opponent off balance and on the defensive. Perhaps the most impressive element of the one sided victory was Aokis dominance of the ground game, which many observers considered to be JZs edge in the contest.

Aoki scored early with a takedown and controlled Calvan on the ground, working a heel lock attempt before taking his opponents back and attempting a rear naked choke. In the second, Aoki put on a submission clinic and demonstrated his ungodly flexibility as he spun from an armbar to a triangle choke and back again. Calvan was able to counter or escape, but looked completely out of sync as he generated almost no offense whatsoever over the 15 minutes.

Aoki was very emotional in his postfight speech to the crowd. JZC had grumbled about the no-contest in their DREAM 1 matchup, and the one sided decision made him even more dejected in his postfight press interviews.

With the victory Aoki advances to the semifinals of the lightweight GP tournament. Thats the plan at least, as Aoki made some statements in the Japanese press leading up to the fight that win or lose there would be no way hed be ready for the next round with only half the preparation time as the rest of the field.

The rest of the card was devoted to the opening round of the middleweight GP tournament. Taiei Kin defeated Minowa-man Ikuhisa Minowa in a very closely contested and entertaining fight. Despite Kin taking a 3-0 unanimous decision (DREAM judges, like their PRIDE predecessors, judge the fight in its entirety) the first round could have gone either way. Minowa was clearly tired in the 2nd, and that likely sealed the deal for Kin.

Korean judoka Yoon Dong-Sik also advanced with a unanimous decision victory over Shungo Oyama. Most of the damage in this fight came from Yoons ground and pound from full mount, and he controlled the tempo from the outset. Two one sided contests followed, with Zeleg Galesic submitting Magomed Sultanakhmadov via arm bar in a minute and a half of the first round. That was followed by the MMA debut of former Pac 10 wrestling standout Ian Murphy, who had a worst case scenario draw against BJJ specialist Ronaldo Jacare. From the opening bell it was clear that Murphy was in over his head, and the result was as one sided a contest as youll ever seen on a major MMA show. After withstanding a beating and several arm bar attempts Murphy finally tapped to a rear naked choke.

Postcards Through History

Sunday, January 3rd, 2010

Postcards have maintained their popularity through the past century and a half or longer. Postcards are popular for many reasons, these days, the free postcard templates available online have helped to increase this popularity. Also, postcard collecting is a huge hobby, third to only stamp and coin collecting. Many people love to collect souvenir postcards from places they visit as a memento of that place and its landmarks.

Postcards started becoming popular in the late 19th century when many countries across the world started printing postcards with photos and images of their country?s most famous places and landmarks. It was in 1889 when the first postcard featuring the Eiffel Tower appeared.

These days you are able to collect a myriad of postcards from almost every country around the world. Whether you are traveling to Rome or Spain, Africa or Asia, you can collect souvenir postcards from there with beautiful landscape or other pictures of the places you visited on your trip.

Some of the souvenir postcards may be worth a lot of money because of where they originated; the older the postcard the better its worth. There are people who narrowly focus their postcard collecting to only a particular region; some prefer a particular style of postcard, some enjoy collecting postcards of a particular theme whereas others collect souvenir postcards from around the world in many different variations.

If you travel a lot then collecting postcards should not be difficult for you as you can get souvenir postcards from every destination you visit. But if you are not much of a traveler but still have a hobby of collecting postcards, you can easily get them online. One o the best online source for postcard collectors is eBay.

Souvenir postcards include images or pictures of historic buildings, expositions, vintage cars, trains, famous people and sports personalities, historic figures and many other things. Some of the postcard collectors have a wide variety of things from long long ago which can be worth a lot of money.

People interested in collecting postcardsshould take utmost care while preserving old postcards and make sure there is no damaged caused to them because of any environmental issues or rough handling. They should not be exposed to chemicals which may scar the post cards for ever.

Postcard collectors are often referred to as deltiologist (It comes from a Greek word which means collector of small pictures or writings). In the early 1900’s, postcards grew rapidly in popularity and availability. More than a billion postcards were sold in a year in the United States alone.

You can find antique, vintage or souvenir postcards in many places such as auctions, antique stores or even in flea markets. You can also search for ads of postcards in the classified section of the paper to find collectors looking to sell their collections to make a bit of money. You may also find this resource handy if you are in search of Christmas postcards for the holidays.

Most postcards are printed on cardboard but you can also find some vintage, older postcards printed on different mediums, such as metal. These can be real keepers!

The Historical Roots Of MMA: Muhammad Ali Vs. Antonio Inoki

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Decades before mixed martial arts became popular in the United States, events matching fighters of different fighting disciplines were very common in Japan. They weren’t called “mixed martial arts” at the time, but that’s essentially what they were. There’s an entire history of pro wrestlers fighting specialists from other martial arts (particularly judo) that were leaving out, but during the’70’s Antonio Inoki began to put the concept of “mixed martial arts” on the map with his matches against fighters from other disciplines.

Before and after his matchup against Muhammad Ali, Inoki would frequently compete against other martial artists in what are widely accepted to be “worked” (ie: having a predetermined outcome) matches. Inoki fought boxer Chuck Wepner, judo Gold Medalist Wilhelm Ruska and world karate champion Willie Williams among others. His most famous match internationally, however, was against Ali.

There’s a great deal of uncertainty about many of the stories surrounding how the event came together and transpired, but a few facts are now known. Ali took the fight as it was a large and presumptively easy paycheck. The big money he was earning is what kept him from walking out when his camp started to disagree with Inoki’s handlers over the rules and ‘finish’ fo the fight. Some suggest that it was supposed to be a fair fight going in, but Ali at the last minute insisted on rules more favorable to him. The more likely version of events is that Ali’s handlers agreed to a predetermined finish, only to have Ali balk at the last moment.

The rules that were in place on fight night were so ridiculously one sided in favor of Ali that it almost defies belief. Inoki wasn’t allowed to hit Ali with a closed fist, nor strike him in the head at all. He was also prohibited from using any sort of choke or submission maneuver. Most problematically, he was prohibited from trying to take Ali to the ground. In other words, Inoki was basically not permitted to do anything that would threaten Ali with any sort of physical harm.

The result was an absolutely horrible fight. Neither man showed much interest in engaging the other, with Inoki spending most of the time on the ground doing what he could under the one sided rules. Inoki threw kicks at Ali’s legs, Ali threw an occasional jab and tried to protect himself from his opponent’s leg strikes. The fight ended a 74-74 draw, with the real losers being the fans.

The fight was officiated by former pro wrestler “Judo” Gene Labell, a legendary tough guy considered at the time to be the ‘baddest man on the planet’. He could have easily beaten up both men, possibly at the same time. That might have provided some much needed entertainment to liven up the tedious charade masquerading as a fight.

The fiasco didn’t hurt Inoki’s popularity in Japan whatsoever. Oddly, he became something of a hero for trying to take the fight to Ali despite the one sided rules. He would remain one of Japan’s most popular pro wrestlers and later serve in the country’s parliament. Inoki’s fights against other martial artists remained wildly popular, and are often credited as being the forerunner of PRIDE, RINGS and the major MMA organizations in Japan today.

Beware Of Buying A Second Hand Jeep!.

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

It is always important to know about the product or the machine you want to buy. It would be wise to have the basic idea of what you would have to check before you buy it. Very recently I have seen jeeps for sale sign and wondered what kind of jeeps he is talking about.

The type of jeep and the purpose for which it is to be used has to be ascertained. You need to then examine the Jeep on Sale depending on the above criteria. If the price seems reasonable ask about the warranty. The reason for the low price should also be found out. There could be a specific reason, so make sure you know what it is. Don’t make a hasty decision.

What you need to look for when you purchase a new or used jeep that is put on for sale, varies based on the type of the jeep and what it is or would be used for. In case of new jeep, you better find out why it is put on for sale. If you think that the price is very low, then don’t forget to enquire about the warranty of the vehicle. Also ask why the price is so less. There could be a catch, so be careful. Don’t be hasty in taking a decision.

The more number of kilometers traveled lesser the price. The condition of the tyres should also be checked. A long test drive would help to determine their condition provided the owner is agreeable to this. Gears should not appear sluggish. Mileage is also another vital point.

Check the distance it has traveled, that could be helpful in bargaining if possible - greater is the distance traveled lesser the price. Check the condition of the tires, if they are worn out. May be you should take a long test drive -if the previous owner has no problem with that- and check if the gears are sluggish. Inquire about the vehicle mileage.

There is one thing you mustn’t forget to ask and that is if the vehicle had met with any accidents. Once again no matter what the owner says it’s better if you get it checked by a personal mechanic. In case of military jeeps that go through the rough and rugged plains, you need to check for cracks in those parts that take the maximum pressure. Do check if the engine runs smoothly when you take it for a drive.

If you find that by all means this is the best deal available in the market, only then put your money on that. Wish you get a jeep that solid as a stone.

So you’re looking forJeeps for sale ? Why dont you check out some of the great deals available from our store. Perhaps you’re looking forJeep Wranglers for sale. Well, it’s your lucky day coz we sell them to. All just great deals for your money, what are you waiting for, treat yourself today.

Holidays To Cuba.

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

At this point you might have already decided that Cuba is the place that you want to visit for your next long hold destination but perhaps need some guidance on the actual booking process. This might seem a little bit trivial but it is without doubt not the case trying to arrange Cuba Tours .

The truth is that this Caribbean island is becoming ever more popular every year and this creates a dilemma for some travel agents . Cuba is not a late booking destination, at least not if you are planning to go in the so called high season.

In Cuba high season, comprises Easter period and the summer months of July and August, predominantly popular among people travelling with kids . November, December, January, February and March are awfully trendy months especially among the European tourists in search of a warm country to avoid few days of miserable weather.

Quite frequently I get clients requesting me to arrange a holiday for them in the above mentioned months , and every so often the phone call comes to close to the date of travel. I can not tell you how frustrating this situation is . For one simple thing , I can not shine recommending a package holiday for the fact that the most interesting resorts and best hotels are completely sold out , and then I am left with the only honest answer I can give. “I am truthfully sorry but at this point there is nothing available that I feel comfortable recommending ”

If you want to stay in big resorts then there is not much to be concerned about. The problem presents it self when customers are interested in combining areas like Havana, Viales Valley, Las Terrazas, Cienfuegos, Trinidad and or Santiago de Cuba. Areas like these with the exception of Havana are very limited when it comes to hotel availabilities.

If what you want is to organise a tailor made Cuba holiday in a high season my guidance to you is to call at least 4 months prior to departure in order to secure not only the rooms in your preferred hotels but also the best fares from the airlines . If you regrettably did not find this article before and are planning a last minute tailor made holiday , the likelihood is something will be found for you but surely the odds of getting the best hotels are not bright

If you are travelling in the low season months you could call even few days before your departure date . Even so we feel very confident to put together the kind of itinerary that will fulfil your holidays

I truly hope you find some good tips in this article and wish you the very best when visiting Cuba .

Get My Guy Back After Our Break Up

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

So you want him back? Getting back together with an ex boyfriend after a breakup is not always easy. So many people don’t succeed in winning their ex back. It’s not really our fault. No one ever handed us an instruction book when we first started dating that taught us how to handle a breakup. Much less, how to get someone back after a breakup.. Here are five steps to help you win his heart back:

1. First of all, get rid of the self-pity. I know it’s hard not to feel down after a breakup, but you have to stop feeling sorry for yourself. You have to be willing to be strong. Don’t let your emotion and especially depression keep you down. You can’t achieve a goal, if you can’t keep your emotions in check and your mind clear. Negativity sabotages your plans even before you put them into action.

2. Learn to accept the fact that the ‘way things were’ is over. Nothing you can do will ever change what is past. You can’t let your mind keep wandering into memories of ‘how it used to be’. Focus on what is going on now. If you realize that the relationship of the past wasn’t perfect you’re heading in the right direction and laying the foundation for you and your ex boyfriend to get back. Remember you are most likely glossing over all the bad stuff that happened. Remember that the breakup didn’t just happen overnight, so don’t expect to be able to patch things up in a day either.

3. Back off for a bit. There’s nothing less appealing to guys than a stalker. Especially ex boyfriends. You may want to seek comfort by hearing his voice or seeing his face, but if you really want him back, you must learn to give him space for a while. Don’t continuously call him, text message him, email him, or go to his place or where he hangs out just to see him. Give him time to realize he may have made a mistake. He may begin to actually miss you. It may actually be more difficult to get him back if you don’t give the time and space he needs after a breakup.

4. Treat yourself to a makeover. Get some new makeup and new clothes. Get a new hairstyle. If you’ve picked up a few pounds, start exercising and eating healthy. When you look good on the outside, you’re going to start feeling better about yourself on the inside. By feeling good on the inside you will be confident and happy. When you’re confident and happy, you will project this image to others. Nothing is more desirable to men than confidence. Your ex-boyfriend will definitely notice.

5. Wait. Healing takes time, and if you’ve followed the four steps the next time he sees you he will probably be sorry that he broke up with you. Keep your physical contact with him to a minimum, if you do see him. Seeing you looking your best and seeing that you’ve become confident and happy will make him desire you. If you limit your physical contact with him, this will drive him crazy. Don’t jump right back into another relationship with him, take it slow.

Artists of Hawaii 2009

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

This year will mark the first installment of the biennial Artists of Hawaii 2009. A guest curator will be featured this year who is none other than Laura Hoptman, the senior curator for the New York Museum of Contemporary Art. The event is something that Hawaii residents all look forward to in attending because it will mark again the celebration of the locals’ talents and unique taste of the Arts.

Contemporary Art depicts the art of the Modern times, it is often confused by Post modern because some claim that we actually live in the Post Modern era already and that any art that comes out during these times should be called as “Post Modern”. To avoid confusion let me first give you the difference between Modern, Post modern and Contemporary Art as these are three subjects that are oftentimes misused.

Post modern art is described as the combination of the different Art Styles during the Modern era and these styles includes: Art Nouveau and Art Deco among many others. Post Modern style is always a mixture of two or more style era. Modern Art is described as Art that emerged after the renaissance Period or the Period of “rebirth”. It is oftentimes categorized as the Art created during the 18th to early 19th century. Contemporary Art is used to describe the current trend of Styles during the ongoing era. The term contemporary does not come into existence until the half of 19th century (1950’s) onwards.

Paintings are mostly on display on this exhibit. Expect young and talented artists churning out their fresh minds to create great pieces. Contemporary Hawaiian artists all gather at the Artists Guild to celebrate their talents by showing their creations to spectators and enthusiasts.

Come and visit the Artists of Hawaii 2009!

Estimating the Market Value of your Goods 2

Sunday, May 31st, 2009

As said, respect and service do actually raise the overall value of your goods by a good margin. If there is something that you should remember, is that it is important to interact with your customer with as much enthusiasm with your subject as possible. Being that you are the proprietor and owner of your table or booth, you should be the one who exhibits the most excitement for your product. It’s like giving away your puppies to people whom you know will take care of them well enough.

Make the customer feel important. Prioritize them. Let them know that you, in the least, care about their welfare. If in any case, put their feelings and personalities above yours. The kooky part is that. We, not only have to be sellers, but we also have to function as ego boosters. Let them feel loved, wanted, and important. They will reciprocate and you will get yourself a valued client.

Of course, there is a difference between plain flattery and rotund comments. Sure, you need to be the ego booster, but have the rep to back that up. There’s no point for you to kiss up to the costumer if you are just a fibber, a tall-tale teller, someone who’s not at all that reliable. Reputation can also make or break your career here. Your client’s loyalty, your referrals, the way other customers (specifically the prospecting ones anyway).

Look out for what you wear, because it can also command the aura that you are depicting. If you would compare either a sandal-wearing guy, with sweaty arms and a greased undershirt versus a somewhat-casual guy, with a clean shave and a warm smile, you’ll have an idea who’s going to win in the customer wars.

Every little bit makes as to who you are in the eyes of the customer. It’s not a necessity that you have to wear a suit and tie, but being clean also helps with your reputation.

How can we get the most out of Fairs and Festivals

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Nothing is more fun and enjoyable than attending festival with the whole family, an event to break away from daily routine of wake-work/ school-sleep. Lots of parents benefit from festivals, may they be hands on parents or working moms and dads. For some heading to festivals with their family is a chance of a lifetime bonding experience. Some however come home worn-out and upset after losing and having different outcome than expected with the events they’ve lost the valuable bonding opportunity.

Fairs and Festivals are made to promote friendship, family, fun and the bonus of helping others thru fundraising. Festivals are considered adventures for families, here they get to spend quality times together, strategize together, win or lose the important thing is that they had fun.

Parents who plan to bring the kids to fairs should take some factors into consideration to avoid tantrums and crying, bring kids to age related festivals. Nowadays, family oriented and kid friendly events are no longer enough. Bonding is better and boredom is lessened when both the destination and the activities are suited to kids ‘age.

Plan with the kids. Gone are the days of the parents being the planner. Parents now are more aware that children especially teenagers, are more committed if they are included in decision making. Kids get to share their ideas on where to go, what to join and of course how to win in contests. Attend festivals that are relevant. Take consideration of your favourite subjects and TV icons. A simple Science project can come to life with a trip to earth and eco friendly festivals; it might be a fair of a lifetime to your little Einstein, or a jungle adventure for your little Dora. You can make the event relevant by psyching your family.

After the long planning brainstorming, fun and activities, remember that this is your time for bonding and a time to be a “FAMILY”. Relax and let go. Things might not go as planned always, but, who cares? Just enjoy and embrace every family moment. That’s when true magic happens.

Desktop Battles

Saturday, May 2nd, 2009

The desktop would be one of the few places that you would not think of making into a battleground. It is where you keep your office supplies, where contracts are drawn, where ideas are inspired and where magical things happen regarding the business. But it can also be a dangerous place to handle data in, especially when you aren’t specifically careful.

No, I’m not talking about miniature soldiers and make shift forts made out of staple wire cartons and colored pieces of paper and doodads. I’m talking about what’s in your computer. Yes, your desktop. If you aren’t keen and careful with your security, the data that is housed within your PC can be stolen. Data that could very well be essential with the normal procedures of your business, or even *gasp* trade secrets!

Thieves can come in from all shapes and sizes, from that suspicious looking old lady that discreetly slips in employee’s cubicles, to that hacker living in the basement of his mom’s house. Battles happen every day and it is up to you to be informed of the latest happenings so you don’t get caught in the crossfire.

In terms of physical protection, make sure to always update your computer with the latest passwords. Those that are hard to remember (but make sure you don’t forget it yourself). Observe a strict employees-only rule. Do background checks on your employees as well (you can never be too careful). Have your computers outfitted with screensaver passwords, or advise your employees to log out of their accounts if you keep a network system.

Employ a trustworthy IT expert to spot holes in your system, ones that hackers could exploit. Millions of dollars are usually lost in data theft, so it is a wise investment for you to try and be extra careful with your hard-earned data.
