What the trick is to take your perfect practice swing to the golf course
Why do we all insist that we must have “perfect” mechanics to achieve great scores? I know many guys who have great swings and their scores are horrible. We must dig a little deeper to find what we are doing wrong.
I’ve been around teaching for years and I always hear “How do the pro’s shoot such terrific scores?” It’s a great question and from what I know, the swing is just part of their greatness.
Pro’s are Pro’s because they have talent, a coach, and the will to eat, sleep and drink golf! However, I do know that they are able to take their practice to the course…and that my friends is the biggest trick of all.
Youve heard many times practice with a purpose right? This is such a strong and amazing part of the game. You see, when you are practicing, you must imagine yourself on the course getting ready to hit the shot.
If you are doing this right, you will start to feel some sort of emotion. If you do not feel a thing, then you are probably a social golfer and you could care less what you shoot…you SAY you want to get better…but it doesn’t matter. In either case, you are searching for the moment which is found in your pre-shot routine. Take a breath…do your thing but imagine your shot, how you are going to execute it…and don’t approach your shot until you are locked in.
When you have decided and are in the moment, go ahead and hit the ball. See if you actually have that shot in your bag. You will probably wake up to the fact that you don’t…and you are not alone. There’s nothing wrong with this….keep repeating this process till you have your shot with the moment in your pre-shot routine. Happy Golfing!
